The toxic competitiveness in Stockholm’s queer/alt/kink scenes
It’s frustrating to see how much disinformation, bad-mouthing, and outright sabotage exist within Stockholm’s queer, alt, and kink nightlife scenes. Instead of supporting each other to build a thriving and diverse scene, some seem more invested in tearing others down. I’ve seen people spread false claims, twist narratives, and even send direct threats, all to damage events and organizers they see as competition. But competition for what exactly? The reality is that Stockholm’s nightlife is already struggling. Compared to other cities, there is a serious lack of spaces for alternative/queer/kinky communities. A stronger, more sustainable club culture benefits everyone. More clubs, more events, and more diversity in spaces should be something we all want. This isn’t to say criticism isn’t valid but there’s a difference between holding spaces accountable and spreading disinformation or trying to sabotage them for personal gain. A scene built on tearing others down will only eat itself alive. I genuinely don’t understand this scarcity mindset. If we actually supported each other instead of treating other events or spaces as a threat, we’d all be in a much better place. A thriving scene isn’t a pie with limited slices, it’s a cake we can all help make bigger! |
